Facebook opens up

To better position themselves against their new rival, Facebook announced Wednesday that they’re now allowing public access to the 3rd party applications that were, up until then, locked away from anonymous, non-Facebook visitors. As previously mentioned, this had to be their next logical step if they wanted to be competitive with Google’s OpenSocial. This is a small step in the creation of a modular Internet, but an important one. Microsoft’s been after it for years, and now together Facebook+Microsoft appear to be on the right track in creating the ever elusive single sign-on Internet - where your virtual identity is available wherever you need it.A single online profile, with a single username & password to access your email, news feeds, documents, photo albums, friends, etc. on-demand, where and when you want them. It’s all about giving people the ability to spend their time communicating with each other instead of being segregated and having to pick & choose where to interact with one another.
