Thankfully, the spirit of Valentine’s wasn’t strong enough to bring us to the dark side of having red, pink, and cupids littered all over the office.
Instead, we got into the Valentine’s spirit and decorated in a different way - just like more and more websites are beginning to.
Chalk another one up to Google for starting up this trend. Most sites, however, are not as keen to celebrate Picasso’s birthday, President’s Day, and etc.
Holiday Website/Logo Decorations.
I checked out a bunch of my daily fave sites and found that about 80% of social networking, search engines, daily news or interest websites that had a likelihood of being viewed every day, had their logos or sites decorated.

I think TripAtlas.com looks prettier with red and pink and hearts. It’s nice to look at something different, even if it’s just a simple red/pink scheme.

One of my favourites! I love the site design and usability of the Magnolia site and I love the decoration of their logo for Valentine’s - a red flowered petal that, upon closer inspection, is in the shape of a heart. Under the radar and professional.

You’ve got to love the old couple
I guess simple red hearts aren’t good enough for Google. .

Yahoo.com was also very impressive - they went interactive and had a blue and pink bird flying towards each other, and hearts floating upwards.

Ask.com decorated the normally blank space of their landing page with sugar and candied hearts - great graphics on a usually blank page.

Wordpress.com added a candy heart with their trademark “W” on it - not terribly creative, but “A” for effort.

Why reddit’s cute alien is sad? Love is in the air and maybe he wasn’t feeling the love, or feels like valentine’s should be canceled in favour of another version of festivus. Day after Valentine’s? The reddit alien meets a penguin and is now smiling! It makes me wonder whether the brains or developers behind reddit expresses themselves and their daily moods through this little alien. Maybe they should consider Twitter.

Dogpile.com had 2 dogs having a picnic. Today is President’s Day and the dogs are dressed up in traditional u.s. governmental clothing, i.e. when they were signing ye olde documents.
